Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how Why Stationery uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can control them. It is part of our Privacy Policy.

1. What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device so it can remember things about your visit. We also use similar technologies that serve related purposes, including:

  • Local storage (such as browser localStorage) — used to remember your saved design and shop preferences on your own device;
  • Pixels and tags — small snippets that help us measure whether a page or email was viewed; and
  • Session identifiers — used to keep you signed in and to keep your cart and checkout working as you move between pages.

In this policy, "cookies" refers to all of these unless we say otherwise. Cookies may be first-party (set by Why Stationery) or third-party (set by a provider we use, such as our payment processor or an analytics service). They may last only for your visit (session cookies) or persist for a set time (persistent cookies).

2. Categories of cookies we use

Essential (always active)

These are necessary for the Service to work, and cannot be switched off through our controls. They support:

  • Authentication and session — keeping you signed in and recognizing your session.
  • Cart and checkout — remembering the items and order details you are working on so payment can complete.
  • Security — protecting against fraud and abuse, and validating requests (for example, preventing cross-site request forgery).
  • Basic operation — remembering essential choices needed to load pages correctly.

Because these are required to provide the Service you requested, they run without needing consent. If you block them through your browser, parts of the Service may not work.

Functional

These remember your preferences to make the Service more convenient. They support:

  • Saved design and brand preferences — remembering settings such as your shop brand and design choices on your device (stored in local storage).
  • Interface preferences — remembering choices you have made in the interface.

If you block these, the Service still works, but some conveniences and saved preferences may not carry over.

Analytics

These help us understand how the Service is used so we can improve it. They collect information such as pages viewed, features used, referring pages, approximate location from IP address, and device and browser type, generally in aggregated or pseudonymous form. We use this to measure performance, fix problems, and improve features.

3. Third-party cookies

Some cookies are set by providers we rely on:

  • Stripe — our payment processor may set cookies to process payments securely and to help detect and prevent fraud during checkout. These support essential payment functionality.
  • Analytics provider(s) — where we use a third-party analytics service, it may set cookies to help us measure usage. Their use of information is also governed by their own privacy terms.

We do not use cookies to sell your personal information for money. To the extent any analytics or advertising cookie is treated as a "sale," "sharing," or "targeted advertising" under US state privacy laws, you can opt out using the controls in Section 4 and as described in the Privacy Policy.

4. How to control cookies

You have several ways to control cookies and similar technologies:

  • Browser settings. Most browsers let you see, block, or delete cookies and clear local storage. Look in your browser's privacy or settings menu. Blocking essential cookies may break sign-in, cart, or checkout.
  • In-product controls. Where the Service offers a cookie or privacy control (for example, a preferences or consent setting), you can use it to manage non-essential categories. You can also clear your saved design and brand preferences by clearing your browser's local storage for the site.
  • Analytics opt-out. You can limit analytics by blocking analytics cookies in your browser, and — where a provider offers one — by using its opt-out tool.
  • Global Privacy Control (GPC). Where required by law, we honor a recognized browser-based opt-out preference signal, such as Global Privacy Control, as an opt-out of "sale"/"sharing"/targeted advertising for that browser.
  • Do Not Track. Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no common industry standard for responding to it, so we do not respond to DNT signals separately, but we do honor recognized opt-out signals such as GPC as described above.

Because cookie preferences are stored per browser and device, you will need to set them on each browser and device you use, and clearing your cookies will reset your choices.

5. Relationship to the Privacy Policy

This Cookie Policy explains the technologies; the Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect (including through cookies), how we use and share it, your US state privacy rights, and how to contact us. Please read them together.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as our technologies or the law change. When we do, we will change the Effective date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
