About Why Stationery
Why Stationery is a wholesale marketplace for paper goods. Independent makers in the United States list the notepads, list pads, business cards and calendars they design; shops, studios and businesses buy them in bulk, with their own name on the page. Nothing is warehoused — every run is printed after it's ordered, by the maker who designed it.
Why it works this way
Small makers can design beautifully and print well, but wholesale is a different problem: it needs minimums, a price that falls with volume, proofs a business buyer can approve, and files a press can actually take. Most of that is plumbing, and building it alone is how a good design studio turns into a bad software company.
So that's what this is. The marketplace handles the minimums, the volume tiers, the live preview a buyer personalizes on, the proofing thread, and the press-ready export — 50 pieces minimum, 300 DPI with bleed and trim marks at the other end. The maker keeps the part that was theirs to begin with: the artwork, the paper, the press and the price.
What we don't do
- We don't print anything. Every order is produced by the seller who listed it, in their own shop, and shipped from there.
- We don't take your designs. Listing artwork here doesn't hand it over. Sellers decide, per listing, what a buyer may change.
- We don't hold stock. There is no warehouse and no inventory. That's the point of print-to-order: a maker can list fifty designs without gambling on any of them.
